Construction on New Security Entrances at High School Begins

District 113 will welcome students back to school in August with one big change, new security entrances at both Deerfield and Highland Park High Schools.

“We continuously look at ways to enhance our security,” George Fornero, District 113 Superintendent said. “These new additions will help us better monitor and control who is coming in and out of our buildings.”

New vestibules are being built at two entrances of each high school. Individuals will now check in at an enclosed and secured visitor’s office before being admitted into the high school.

“This is something that we like to build into every project that we do,” Michael Dolter, an architect with Perkins+Will, said. “We view it as a best practice.”

District 113 hired P+W as its architecture firm in May, 2012 to develop a master plan for Deerfield and Highland Park High School to address school needs in the most efficient way possible. These security enhancements are one of many components P+W identified as a top priority.
