Bargains Abound at Sidewalk Sale

Shoppers crowd downtown in search of deals

The streets of downtown Highland Park were crowded with shoppers this past weekend. They came from all around, some even from out-of-state, to cruise the .

The event is put on by the and has been happening for the past four decades, this was its 38th year.

"I've been coming to the sidewalk sale since I was in high school," said Highland Park resident Julie Silverman, "Every year we look forward to it."

Stores along Central Avenue as well as local vendors put out greatly discounted merchandise while restaurants and food vendors sold delicious treats and a group of students from provided background music.

"It's an event that the community and merchants really look forward to," said "The Chamber gets phone calls all year long from people asking when is the sidewalk sale.  It's just a wonderful event in a fabulous community."
