FUNtastic Family Fair Embraces Arts, Healthy Living

Seventh annual festival teaches parents, kids about going green.

As the middle of winter looms, so do those dreary winter blues. Sunday the aims to change that with the seventh annual FUNtastic Family Fair at the Highland Park Country Club.

The FUNtastic Family Fair: Healthy Choices for Healthy Families promises to be a highly interactive, playful learning experience for both parents and their children.

“Families come back each year looking forward to all of the fun activities. Once people come, they stay the whole time because there's so many activities for the kids and their parents to do together,” said Barbara May, the event's chair.

The event offers more than 50 different exhibits designed to entertain preschoolers to 6th graders. Exhibits will focus on healthy choices, fitness, arts and expression, and serve as an opportunity for parents and children to learn about wellness products and services, all while getting free screenings and samples.

May describes it as a fair for “parents to learn about green living, to make our world a better place and make healthier choices for  their children.”

Children participate in the fair as well, selling handcrafted items like jewelry, pens, picture frames and artwork in the "Show & Sell."

"There is so much value in kids expressing their creativity by selling things they’ve made from their heart," said Infinity Foundation Executive Director Nancy Grace Marder. "It also gives them a firsthand opportunity to run a mini-business or raise awareness like the Reach for Change Elm Place school project paper doll project for Saving the Children of Darfur”.

Besides the exhibitors, there will be ongoing entertainment including the John Meanser Magic Show, Nature's Creatures, Rich Maisel's Singing Encyclopedia, hula hooping, balloon twisting, drumming, temporary henna tattoos, hair braiding and face painting.

The FUNtastic Family Fair is Infinity Foundation's community outreach program for the year. Infinity Foundation is a non-profit educational organization in Highland Park seeking to provide enrichment for personal and spiritual growth. The Infinity Foundation offers 200 courses each year for children, teens and adults in personal development and holistic health.

The FUNtastic Family Fair begins at 1 p.m.  Admission is $5 per person with children under 4 getting in free.
