Crescendo of Victory Concert Celebrates Midwest Young Artists Competition Winners at Chicago's Symphony Center on February 22nd

(Chicago, Illinois) The Midwest Young Artists (MYA) youth arts center is pleased to announce details for their annual competition winner’s concert event to be held at Chicago’s Symphony Center. The overall winning 2013 soloists from the Walgreens National Concerto Competition, Chris Gao and Hansuh Rhee, will perform with the MYA Symphony Orchestra on Chicago’s Symphony Center stage at 3:00pm. In addition to the winning concertos, the orchestra will perform Symphony No. 5 by Dmitri Shostakovich. Winners from the upcoming Discover National Chamber Music Competition (February 9, Ravinia) will perform as well.

Christopher Gao, overall winner of the Walgreens MYA division, will perform Prokofiev's Sinfonia Concertante, Opus 125, Mvt. 2 on cello. Hansuh Rhee, the Walgreens open division overall winner, will perform the Sibelius Concerto in D Minor, Mvt. 1 on violin. In addition to these classics, the MYA Symphony Orchestra will perform Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, a fan favorite from the venerable Russian composer.

175 students from as far away as Finland competed over a two day period in December for top honors, and this prized opportunity to perform with the backing of a 120 piece fully orchestrated symphony. Thanks to the sponsorship of Walgreens, MYA is able to assemble a panel from the finest music schools and ensembles in the country to judge the annual competition, as well as considerable monetary and educational prizes.
