"Journey" Man Jonathan Cain Is Home Again

Local rock star Jonathan Cain returns to his Chicago-area roots with a 2-night stand (Tuesday & Wednesday) at Ravinia with the group Journey.

Jonathan was born in Chicago 63 years ago, eventually attending Our Lady of the Angels School in the city, East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, then the Chicago Conservatory of Music.

Aside from living in Chicago and the suburbs, Jon has lived in other cities including Nashville & Los Angeles, plus other Tennessee & California towns.

His first big break came when he joined the established British band "The Babys" in 1979 while his second big break came when he joined the established American band "Journey" in 1980.

His bandmates in The Babys included singer John Waite and future Styx member Ricky Phillips. Together they released two more Babys albums - "Union Jacks" & "On The Edge" - before breaking up.

In 1987 - during the possible end of Journey as a group - Jon again joined John Waite & Ricky Phillips along with Journey guitarist Neal Schon and future Journey drummer Deen Castronovo in the new group Bad English. They released two albums as Bad English before disbanding.

Journey then reunited in 1996, only to have singer Steve Perry suddenly leave due to health issues in 1998.

Journey had several different singers until 2007, when they hired Filipino singer Arnel Pineda after seeing & hearing his Journey cover songs on the internet.

Jon and the other members of Journey - Deen Castronovo, Neal Schon & Ross Valory - really knew that Arnel had the look & sound they wanted after they flew him to the U.S. for an audition.

This new version of Journey has released several albums & live DVDs of new & classic Journey material. Their latest album is "Eclipse" featuring the "City Of Hope" hit single.

The good news/bad news is that Jon & Journey have these two shows Tuesday & Wednesday at Ravinia, but they've been sold-out since the day they went on sale.
