MAX’S DELI INVITES COMMUNITY TO “STAND UP FOR KIDS”

Popular Highland Park Restaurant hosts Mac and Cheese
Competition November 26
to benefit homeless youth

HIGHLAND PARK, IL (NOVEMBER 26, 2013) – Max’s Deli is serving up one of America’s favorite
comfort foods to help shine the spotlight on youth homelessness in Chicago by
hosting a fundraiser for StandUp For Kids,
a non-profit organization dedicated to end youth homelessness through national
and local outreach. To culminate November as Homeless Youth Awareness Month, on
Tuesday, November 26th, 2013 at 7pm, an assortment of esteemed chefs
will come together from all over Chicagoland to create their very own specialty
macaroni and cheese dishes, which will then be tasted and judged by attendees
and special guest judges.

There will also
be an array of beers for guests to judge. And, there will be four “Make Your
Own S’mores” machines for the kids to create their own fun deserts. Beer, Mac
& Cheese and S’mores for a good cause - what’s not to love? This event is
open to the public with a suggested donation of $20 per adult (kids are free).

Over the course
of a year, approximately 26,000 youth in Illinois, and 15,000 youth in Chicago
experience homelessness. With the approaching colder weather, the organization
is working tirelessly to promote the local outreach center as a safe haven for
kids. Volunteers are already hitting the streets hard to pass out hot meals,
provide socks, hats, mittens, coats, and more so that these homeless children
can survive the winter season. Every dollar earned through this Mac & Cheese
Competition will go toward support and supplies for homeless youth.

Max’s Deli
owners, Joey and Greg Morelli are extremely passionate about the organization
and helping kids in the local community. They regularly cook and donate food to
the StandUp For Kids outreach center in downtown Chicago, and will be running
specials all November for National Homeless Youth Awareness Month. “This
homelessness epidemic is right in our backyard effecting innocent children, so
we of course feel very passionately about this particular cause and want to
help out in any way we can,” says Joey Morelli, head chef and co-owner of Max’s
Deli.

“There are so
many forgotten children on the street that are more than homeless, they have
often lost their family connections for various reason,” says Brian Russell, Executive
Director, StandUp For Kids Chicago Chapter. “Most of these kids need to connect
with someone who cares and need something to motivate them to keep moving ahead
with their lives. StandUp for Kids meets the homeless on the streets to get them
involved in our programs to break that cycle.”
