To remember and honor the mothers left
behind in puppy mills.
HIGHLAND
PARK, IL (OCTOBER 20, 2013) –Revel in the Halloween spirit and conjure
up a team of spooks for the 2nd Annual Petwalk Event for The Puppy Mill Project, Miles for the Mothers in the Mills. This festive event begins at 11 a.m. on
Sunday, October 20th at the gorgeous Larry Fink Memorial Park in
Highland Park. Family members of all ages are welcome, as well as well-behaved,
leashed dogs on this leisure walk around the pond. Costumes suitable for all ages are encouraged.
Advanced registration is $30 per adult and that fee will
increase to $35 the day of the event. Children under 12 are free and each adult may bring two dogs. You may
register in advance online HERE or via www.thepuppymillproject.com. Additionally, The Puppy Mill Project encourages all participants to set up a fundraising
page to help raise more funds for the education and advocacy efforts of the

Registration opens at 10 a.m. the day of the event. The walk begins at 11 a.m., and there will be
a variety of stimulating activities throughout the day that will include
playful pet contests, training and behavioral tips, “Ask the Vet” advice forums,
and more. Local jam band Borrowed Time will be playing throughout the walk. All
activities are free to those in attendance!
A one-of-a-kind Halloween Pet Costume Contest will conjure
Halloween fun, and spook and charm dog-lovers. Dress up your loveable pooch in their favorite character for admiration
and cheers! There’s fun for the kids too
– balloon artist entertainer, “Suzette” from Landini Entertainment, will be
there to create balloon dogs, cats, and other colorful creations!

The Miles for Mothers in the Mills also includes
lighthearted contests that get underway at 11:45 am and celebrate the family
dog that include the most amazing trick and pet/owner look-a-like. Training tips will be provided by Sara McLoudrey, owner and Director of ROOT Dog Training, Chicagoland’s only Victoria
Stillwell Positively Dog Trainer and Certified Professional Dog Trainer.
This event is generously sponsored by Egg Harbor Café, First
Bank of Highland Park, Max’s Delicatessen and Restaurant, Mordini General
Contracting, North Shore Family Pet, Pet Supplies Plus, Stella and Chewy’s, and
Sunset Foods. Light refreshments will be
provided and Max’s Deli will introduce their new doggie bagels. Borrowed Time
is graciously entertaining with live music as well.

All dogs at the event must be up-to-date on vaccinations,
have an I.D. tag, must be dog and people-friendly, and must be on a leash
six-feet or shorter. No retractable
leashes please.
Proceeds of the event benefit The Puppy Mill Project, a valuable
Chicago-based advocacy group. Founded in
September of 2009, The Puppy Mill Project teaches the truth about exploitative
breeders operating puppy mills, and encourages rescue and adoption as a
gratifying alternative to bolstering commercial breeding facilities by
purchasing pet store pups.
