The Decline of the Monarch-or Not?

[Adults]

The shrinking size of Mexico’s winter colony of Monarch
butterflies-from 22 acres in 2003 to just 2.9 acres in 2013-has sparked worries
that the species is in danger. The Chicago Academy of Sciences’ Doug Taron,
director of the Illinois Butterfly Monitoring Network, will discuss the reasons
for the change and the implications for the Monarch’s survival. Offered in
conjunction with the Lake Cook Chapter of the Illinois Audubon Society and will
be preceded by a brief Audubon meeting.
