CITY OF HIGHWOOD ANNOUNCES PROJECT TO INCREASE ELECTRICAL CAPACITY TO DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES

HIGHWOOD, IL (August 12, 2011) – The City of Highwood, in conjunction with ComEd, is proud to announce a project to increase electrical capacity along Waukegan/Sheridan Road.  The project, scheduled for Monday, August 15th, will double the electrical power to businesses in that area.

“For a number years, businesses along Waukegan/Sheridan Road in the downtown area have had intermittent power outages. These outages have caused consternation among the business owners, City officials and customers as thousands of dollars of food product and business have been lost,” states Kenneth Marabella, Interim City Manager.  The primary cause of the outages has been found to be a need for increased electrical capacity in this area.

After a recent City Council meeting to discuss power outages with local business, a second meeting was held this week at Buffo’s Restaurant that was well attended by area businesses, Ken Marabella, Senator Garrett, State Legislator Karen May, and ComEd.  It was announced that ComEd would be upsizing three transformers to provide twice the available power and a much more non- storm related, reliable service to an area including 417-431 Waukegan/Sheridan Road and 17-21 Webster Avenue that has experienced problems for years.

In addition, at the meeting, other business owners further south along Waukegan/Sheridan Road and some on Highwood Avenue used the opportunity to explain other power related issues.  ComEd officials, headed by Eric Durray, External affairs Manager, and Ragaie Abu Hashim, Reliability Manager, agreed to investigate the remaining power issues and get back to those in attendance by August 19.

“This City of Highwood collaboration with businesses, state officials, and ComEd on non-storm related power issues is a model of cooperation and shows what can be accomplished with everyone working together,” explains a pleased Mayor Pecaro.  “ComEd has listened to feedback from our local businesses and the City, and as a result is upgrading a portion of their delivery system, along with reviewing other areas to make sure the City has sufficient power available.  We couldn’t be more happy with the support and quick response from ComEd.”
