Nurture's Volunteer Booth at District 112's MLK Day of Service

For the second year in a row, Nurture will participate in District 112’s Martin Luther King Day of Service, Not Day Off event.  Nurture is hosting a booth at the Highland Park event where volunteers will build non-perishable soup-mixes to be distributed to families by the Moraine and Northfield township food pantries.  Nurture has collected donated ingredients for up to 250 of the non-perishable, six-serving soup mixes.

The ingredients and supplies for the soup mixes are generously being donated by: Garden Fresh Market, HP Human Relations Commission, Isaac & Moishe’s Deli, North Shore School District 112, Sunset Foods. Last year, the soup mixes were a big hit with food pantry clients.

In addition, volunteers will help compile a cookbook for 2012 Champ Camp participants. This will help campers make delicious, nutritious recipes at home.

Nurture is a grass roots organization whose mission is to empower family members of all ages (children, teens and adults) with the tools and resources needed to prepare healthy and delicious meals even when faced with limited time and budget. Nurture was founded in 2008 to address hunger, childhood obesity, wellness and an increasingly unhealthy food chain.  It focuses on low-income families with children at high risk for nutritional and health problems.
