Surf Sweets, a leading brand of all-natural and organic gummy candies and jelly beans, spent last Friday cleaning up Rosewood Beach in Highland Park to celebrate the company's 5th anniversary.
Surf Sweets' founder Bert Cohen and his colleagues dedicated their workday afternoon to cleaning up Highland Park's Rosewood Beach. The event was organized through the Adopt-a-Beach Program with the Alliance for the Great Lakes.
Surf Sweets is owned and operated by Wheeling-based TruSweets, LLC, is a socially responsible company dedicated to building delicious sweet snack brands that are better for our families and our planet. In 2013, the company furthered its commitment to conscious capitalism by joining 1% For the Planet, an international organization that “connects businesses, consumers and non-profits empowering big positive change in our world.”
As a member, the candy company donates a minimum of 1% of the sales from its products to a number of organizations that support environmental causes, including Climate Cycle, Healthy Child Healthy World and Eco Mom Alliance.
"As a socially responsible company, we have vowed to commit ourselves to making a difference in our world," said Cohen. "This beach clean-up was a tangible way for us not only to show a commitment to the health of the natural resources we enjoy in our community, but also to celebrate the past five years of hard work and dedication. We're looking forward to continuing our mission of creating the world’s most flavorful candy that is free of artificial ingredients. “
