Downtown Highland Park will be getting a third electric car charging station before the end of the year in the upper level of the Port Clinton Parking Garage, according to a news release from the City.
There are already a charging stations at Walgreens on Elm Place and a parking lot at 440 Central Avenue in downtown Highland Park.
This project was sponsored in part by Windfree Wind and Solar Energy Company and the Highland Park Ford Lincoln Dealership.
The installation of this third electric vehicle charging station downtown has been part of a collaborative effort with the communities of Lake Forest and Skokie to deploy electric vehicle infrastructure throughout the North Shore, according to the release.
The City believes working collaboratively with neighboring communities will allow drivers of electric vehicles to visit each community knowing that they will have access to a charging station.
The Highland Park charging station will be located in the Port Clinton parking garage near the southern end of the upper level parking garage near the intersection of Laurel Avenue and First Street, and is expected to be operational by the end of December.
