Township Asks for Turkeys, Community Responds

Coldwell Banker agent reads Patch article and make sure Moraine Township Food Pantry has Thanksgiving turkeys for its patrons.

A Coldwell Banker real estate agent read Moraine Township Supervisor Anne Bassi’s plea on Patch for Thanksgiving Turkeys for its patrons and on Monday she helped deliver 20 birds to the Pantry’s Highland Park office.

“If people bring us turkeys on Monday we’ll give them out on Tuesday,” Bassi told Patch Friday. It did not take Coldwell Banker long to respond delivering 20 birds Monday for area Thanksgiving tables.

“One of our agents, Marjorie Rissman (partner of Highland Park Patch editor Steve Sadin), brought it up at our regular Monday morning meeting and everyone decided to jump in,” Coldwell Banker Managing Broker Steve Kolko said. “We got all 20 turkeys.”

Bassi told Rissman Sunday that was the remaining number the Pantry needed to assure all patrons who wanted one on their Thanksgiving Table would have it. Rissman and Coldwell Banker agent Pam Devendorf went to the grocery store after the meeting and dropped them off at the Pantry.

“We have empirical evidence that many people read the Patch and also that we live in an incredibly generous community,” Bassi said. “We have received almost 60 turkeys and our food pantry users are so grateful”
