Trax Named Deerfield Business of Year

Deerfield Bannockburn Riverwoods Chamber of Commerce cites community service in giving award to Deerfield bar and grill.

A solid effort of fundraising for community causes and Deerfield’s schools in particular were a core reason Trax Tavern & Grill was honored Wednesday as Deerfield’s business of the year by the Deerfield Bannockburn Riverwoods Chamber of Commerce.

This award is given annually to a Chamber of Commerce member demonstrating, among other things, community service and a commitment to the quality of life in Deerfield, Bannockburn and Riverwoods, according to Executive Director Victoria Street.

“Trax has truly been remarkable in its efforts within our community for many years,” Street said. “One of its proudest achievements has been their work with our schools. This year alone, between fundraiser, pizza donations for resale, sponsorship of teams and classrooms, and gift certificates, Trax has raised in the area of $20,000.00.”

The eatery has done more. When Reid Minkus was injured in a motorcycle accident and accumulated medical bills of approximately $400,000, Trax helped raise $10,000 to help defray the cost, according to Street.

Trax Manager Robby Cohn’s first thought after winning the award was offering thanks. “All of us at Trax Tavern & Grill, would like to take this opportunity to thank the communities of Deerfield, Bannockburn & Riverwoods along with the DBR Chamber Of Commerce for voting us the Business Of The Year for 2013,” Cohn said. “We believe in community first and will always strive to lend a helping hand whenever we are needed.”

Giving takes the form of more than fundraising, according to Street. Trax donates the use of its back room for local causes holding events and donates the food. Walk for Life, the American Cancer Society and the Kerry Wood Foundation are some of the recipients.

“Trax continues to demonstrate with dollars, food, sports uniforms and meeting space, its value to our community,” Street said. “They are well deserving of this award.”
