You're So #$%^ing . . .

You soul mate just might live outside of the predictable 6 mile radius you RARELY live. Who knew? Your cell phone did, for one.

Predictable.

You want to find your soul mate, a new job, excitement and passion? Stop looking in the same places. Really, if you read this article you'll see that cell phone companies can predict our movement up to 93% accuracy, because we keep doing the same things, looking in the same places.

"Most customers seemed to stick to the same small area, a radius of six miles or less . . .  All users were roughly equally predictable . . . Everyone seemed to have a set area that they rarely left, and that area was always traveled in a very regular way—even the jet-setters appear to rarely deviate from their travel patterns."

SIX miles? You stick to the same old six miles most of your life and then you say 'why can't I find my soul mate or a new job?' Maybe because your soul mate lives 7 miles away or goes to the dry cleaners around the corner from the one you've been using for YEARS! Amazing isn't it? Even you world travelers, according to the article when you're not away you're just as predictable as the person who rarely leaves their neighborhood.

I read this and was floored. I've live in NYC, on Long Island, Ft. Lauderdale, Dallas, Chicago, Evanston, Highland Park and . . .  I'm still just as much a creature of habit as anyone else once I get established somewhere. So where's the adventure, the mystery, the fun, your soul mate or new perfect job? It's out there; let's do something about it.

I challenge you to take on change for the next couple of weeks. Little changes, safe changes if you want, but take on something. Try walking an extra couple of blocks to get on the train or bus at a different stop. Try a restaurant you've never been in. Pick a neighborhood that's not in walking distance, drive over there and take a walk. Get up half an hour earlier and play with the dog. If you don't have a dog, borrow one. Read a different newspaper or reach out to a friend you haven't seen in a long time . . . Do SOMEthing different, even just once a day.

In two weeks, doing something different, being conscious of your habitual behaviors and patterns might hold some surprises, good or bad, but at least you'll have stepped out of your boundaries and opened yourself up to some new possibilities. You've embraced awareness and reminded yourself that YOU are the cause of the quality of your life. Try it. step outside of the cell phone zone . . .
