D.H. Mattix Gallery Opens at Renaissance Place with Something for Everyone

D.H. Mattix brings a unique "gallery for the home" to the arts-oriented Highland Park community.

Renaissance Place in Highland Park, Ill., is the new home for D.H. Mattix Gallery, which opened on March 1, 2013. The retail gallery, which has been in Chicagoland for 20 years, continues to offer original oils and mixed-media works by world-renowned artists, original art glass, handcrafted boutique items, sculptures, decorative home accessories and unique gifts for all occasions and seasons.

Gallery owner Lane Mattix, a Chicagoland native, says he wants to take the intimidation factor out of the word “gallery.” “We carry unique gift items that are in the $5 to $10 dollar range, all the way up to the $5,000 art piece,” he says. “So there’s literally something for everyone.” He refers to his gallery as a “gallery for the home,” which it is, in more than one way.

Integrated with the gallery is Mr. Mattix’s interior styling services that include visiting a client’s home and selecting paint combinations, furniture and accessories that can rejuvenate or entirely change the look of a room. “I also offer a one-day room makeover session,” he says.

Mr. Mattix entered the world of visual arts as a young runway model for international apparel designers, including those in Tokyo, Milan and Paris. Having been exposed to the arts in those cities, he returned to Chicagoland and established himself as an interior designer for retail and commercial spaces, hotel lobbies and offices, eventually moving into residential design. Today he continues to refresh his collections by travelling the world to purchase unique items for
the home. His plans for the future at Renaissance Place include the addition of
artisan-made jewelry.

A fit for Highland Park

According to Renaissance Place General Manager Christiane Fischer, “D.H. Mattix Gallery is a fantastic fit for our center and for the City of Highland Park. It’s sophisticated yet accessible, with great visual appeal, and a wonderful resource for our community. We’re very excited to welcome the spring retail season with such a dynamic new tenant.”

Carolyn Hersch, Business Development Coordinator for the City of Highland Park, points out that the arts and culture sector and the local economic vitality are connected in many ways. “Arts, culture, and creativity can improve a
community's competitive edge, create a foundation for defining a sense of
place, and attract new and visiting populations,” she says. “D.H. Mattix
Gallery is a perfect match for our arts oriented community. We welcome them and look forward to their success.”
