Midwest Young Artists to Hold Community Music & Family Fun Fest Aug. 26

Midwest Young Artists, a nationally top-ranked non-profit music school in Highwood is holding an open house and music festival for the general public on August 26.

HIGHWOOD, Ill. – The 5th Annual Midwest Young Artists (MYA) Family Music & Fun Fest will take place on August 26th from 12-6pm at 878 Lyster Road in the Town of Ft. Sheridan, Highwood. This event is free to attend and open to the public!

 

Midwest Young Artists is a top rated local non-profit specializing in pre-college performing ensembles from many musical genres. They also hold concerts and recitals by headlining musicians from all over the country. Since 2008, the MYA Fun Fest planning committee, comprised of parents, volunteers, board members and staff have celebrated the concert season with a big community party and open house featuring live performances all day - from swingin’ Jazz combos to classical string chamber ensembles. The festival draws over 1,000 attendees and will feature:

The Fun Fest will usher in the 2012-13 MYA 20th anniversary concert season for the over 600 students enrolled in challenging and fun ensembles. These award-winning groups include: Jazz, Orchestras, Chamber & wind Ensembles and Choral groups. It is also chance for the community to witness the artistry and talent of these young musicians in a casual and fun atmosphere. All are encouraged to tour the historic MYA Center, which started out life as a military stockade built in 1890 by famed architectural firm Holabird and Roche.

 

With plenty of tents and an air-conditioned main building, the August heat will not stop anyone from having a blast! The festival is also pet-friendly, so bring your dog, cat, cheetah or three toed sloth to join in the fun. 100% of the proceeds directly benefit socially responsible MYA programs, scholarships and its community outreach programs. Don’t miss a special performance by celebrated children’s music group “Teddi & Fred Koch with the ‘Lil Cow Band”, and get ready to sing and dance along!
