Primary Care and Geriatrician Physician Joins Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group

Internal medicine physician and geriatrician Robert Freilich, MD, Joins Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital as a member of the Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group.

Internal medicine and geriatrician physician Robert Freilich, MD, has joined the medical staff of Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital as a member of the Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group.  Freilich’s 37 years in practice include serving on the medical staff of Northwestern Memorial Hospital for the past 13 years and serving as medical director of an intensive care unit for 13 years.  He has also served as medical director of a nursing home facility for the past 23 years and has served as medical director of a hospice program. 

“Dr. Freilich’s nearly four decades practicing medicine brings to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital exceptional experience in internal medicine,” said Michael G. Ankin, MD, FACP, FCCP, a pulmonologist at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital and the hospital’s vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer.  “His experience is a tremendous asset for our patients seeking experienced, thoughtful care as they deal with the health issues related to aging.”

Freilich is board certified in internal medicine, geriatrics and pulmonary medicine.  He received his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 1973.  He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Ohio State University Hospital in 1976 and completed a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at the University of Illinois Hospital in 1978.

Freilich has served as an assistant professor of clinical medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine since 1981 and previously served as an instructor of medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine from 1978-1981. 

He has served on the medical staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chicago since 1978.  He served as chairman of the critical care committee from 1978 to 1988, as the medical director of the intensive care unit from 1978 to 1989, and as assistant medical director of respiratory therapy from 1978 to 1989.

Additionally, Freilich was the medical director of Alden Lincoln Park Rehabilitation and Health Care Center from 1983 to 2006 and the medical director of Family Centered Hospice in Addison, Ill from 2005 to 2006.  He is currently the medical director of Best Care Home Care in the south suburbs of Chicago, a position he has held since 1990.
