The information below comes from Kelley and Spalding.

Paul Frederick Buchholz, 82, of Highland Park, passed away July 7.

Born October 13, 1930 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Paul spent his early years in Nekimi, WI, the son of a school teacher, Theodore Buchholz and a telephone operator, Elda Buchholz. The Buchholz family moved to Elkton, Michigan and Paul graduated from Elkton Highschool and went on to get his BA from Central Michigan University and a PhD in Education from University of Michigan. He served with the US Army during the Korean War, an experience that he said was one of the most formative of his life.

An educator, he was a teacher, principal, and ultimately was the Superintendent of Schools in Highland Park. He was also always an avid gardener, golfer, handyman, dog-lover and snappy dresser. A friend to all, his charisma and smile lit up a room. He approached life as a warrior hero – taking the good and the bad with strength and courage. Beloved husband of 43 years to Maureen; loving father of Ann Crilly, Brenda Brainerd, Shoshana Buchholz-Miller (Victor); cherished grandfather of Megan, Ryan, Annabel, Atticus and Tess; much loved brother of Richard and Sylvia. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 10 am at Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home, 1787 Deerfield Road, Highland Park, IL. Internment Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Highland Park District 112 Foundation (www.112foundation.org) or Highland Park Rotary Club (www.highlandparkrotary.org).
