Jill DuBois

In the last five months I have experienced the unmitigated human kindness of two locals that cannot go unheralded. The first was carried out by a woman who found my husband's information-laden cell phone at the Debbie Gottlieb Beitler dog park. This kind soul relentlessly tried to find us despite the apparent indifference of the HP police and the cell phone service provider. Ultimately, a time-honored method reunited the phone with its owner: our local angel posted a sign at the dog park.

The other act of kindness occurred last week at the Lucky Fish Deli when a dear friend suffered a fainting episode that required paramedics and a trip to the emergency room. When the paramedics were wheeling our friend to the ambulance, a woman at a nearby table offered to pay our check so that we could leave immediately to follow the ambulance. (I'm happy to report that our friend seems to be ok.)

We are fortunate to live among such individuals. I will never forget their kindness, and I intend to pay it forward.
