What Will It Take?

I recently wrote to our fair Mayor, well when I say recently, it was three weeks ago and I am still awaiting an acknowledgement, far less a response!

I wrote "What is it going to take to have the city take it's responsibilities seriously? A Death, A Near Fatal accident?

Last night as I walked home from the station, many days after the last significant snowfall, I was forced to walk on the road MANY times, in the almost pitch dark, and I had to climb into the snow bank to avoid cars who clearly did not see me.

Many sidewalks are not cleared, even where the mini plow has been there are still several inches, and where it has not been plowed, the lazy home owners have at best, not cleared their side walk, at worst, their plow companies have piled walls of snow across the sidewalk.

The city, who is always complaining about budget shortfalls, has ordinances which require the clearance of your sidewalk, within a fairly short time of the snowfall if I am not mistaken?

However it seems as though these ordinances are not enforced, making them essentially useless.

As a pedestrian who delights at the city's stance on trying to enable us, I am especially disappointed annually when you do nothing to assist us in the winter.

I look forward to understanding why you choose not to enforce these ordinances, at least with warning notices, assuming I don't die on the highway first."

What I did not say at the time, is that the city itself, or at least the Park District, not really sure I ever understood the delineation, they are all funded by city taxes, is one of the worst offenders.

The sidewalk adjacent to Sunset Valley golf course just off Central is almost never cleared, and just this morning, I again had to walk on the road to avoid wading through several inches of snow.

Insummary, the Mayor could care less, the city clearly don't care, and the park district cannot even clear it's own responsibilities.

I still await a response!
