Kim Stone for Highland Park City Council

Read why Peg Laemle endorses Kim Stone for City Council

I strongly endorse Kim Stone for Highland Park City Council.

I met Kim over four years ago, when I joined her mission to educate and persuade our city staff, elected officials, and residents of the importance of passing a Complete Streets Policy to make our city sidewalks and streets safer for all pedestrians, bikers and drivers. Last September, City Council approved this policy, as part of a larger Bike-Walk 2030 Plan.

Getting passage of a new policy, even one that will benefit residents of all ages and abilities, is no small matter. This plan involved interactions with City Staff, elected officials, Commissions, residents, bicycle shops, and many other Highland Park stores. Chicago’s Active Transportation Alliance gave critical assistance throughout this process.

Gathering support and building consensus for a project of this magnitude requires knowledge, passion, speaking and writing skills, patience and tact. Kim has these skills in abundance.  Without her firm guidance and time commitment, our city would not have this policy in place. A testament to the strength of this policy is that City staff and elected officials now incorporate Complete Streets requirements into their yearly budget considerations.

Kim shares my concerns for improving safety and protecting our environment. Adding her voice to our City Council would benefit us all.  Please join me in voting for Kim Stone on April 9th.
