1 DUI, 1 Drug Arrest and 20 Seat Belt Citations During HP's Stepped Up Enforcement

Highland Park police had increased patrols around Memorial Day.

The following is from the City of Highland Park:

Grant funded extra-duty officers from the Highland Park Police Department made 1 DUI and 1 drug arrest during the recent Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Memorial Day Holiday Period Crackdown which began May 9 and ended on May 26, 2014. In addition, these officers issued 20 seat belt citations and 24 citations & warnings for other traffic violations such as speeding, hand-held cell phone use while driving, improper lane usage, open transportation of alcohol and disobeying traffic signals. A total of 44 vehicles were stopped by the grant-funded police officers. In addition, non-grant funded Highland Park Police Patrol Officers made 9 DUI arrests and issued numerous other traffic citations during the Memorial Day Holiday crackdown time period.

Highland Park Police joined forces with other state and local law enforcement and highway safety partners in the IDOT grant-funded Holiday period campaign.  The campaign featured high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities which included a strategic media campaign as well as additional enforcement activity.

Extra emphasis was given to late-night hour enforcement, as statistics show the highest number of motorists drink and drive and the fewest motorists buckle up during this time frame.
