$100K in iPads Stolen from North Shore School

More than $100,000 worth of iPads were stolen from Lake Forest Academy in early June.

More than $100,000 worth of iPads were stolen from Lake Forest Academy in early June, according to the Lake Forest Police Department.

About 400 iPads were taken from the school's IT office between June 7 and 11, and there doesn't seem to be much for the police to work with in terms of leads, according to Deputy Police Chief Karl Walldorf.

"Although locked, the office is accessible by anyone with a key past and present," Walldorf said.

There were no cameras pointing at the area and no witnesses have come forward.

"There's not a whole lot to go on at this point."

The iPads are given out to each student at the school throughout the school year, and then collected before summer break, at which point they're shipped back to wherever they were leased from.

"On this scale I think someone got lucky or good planning that they happened to have all these in one room," Walldorf said.

The school has insurance for the iPads, and will only be out the deductible for each one, according to Walldorf.

"The actual loss is much lower at the school, but obviously they're not happy about it and neither are we," he said.
