2 Cars in Parking Lots Get Catalytic Converters Swiped on Same Day

Two young women were also arrested for speeding more than 35 MPH over the limit.

The following information is from the Highland Park Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

Speeding more than 35 MPH over the limit

Jessica Velazquez, 20, of the 12300 block of Lee Avenue in Waukegan, was arrested at 3 a.m. July 9 and charged with speeding 35+mph over the limit after being stopped by police in the 2600 block of Skokie Valley Road. She was released on a personal recognizance bond with an Aug. 27 court date.

Gwendolyne Scheltens, 19, of the 700 block of S. Parkside Drive in Round Lake, was arrested and charged with speeding 35+mph over the limit and illegal transportation of alcohol after being stopped by police in the 2600 block of Skokie Valley Road at 2 a.m. July 14. She was released on a personal recognizance bond with an Aug. 27 court date.

Driving with a suspended license

Jane Prince, 43, of the 8200 block of W. Bender in Milwaukee, WI, was arrested and charged with driving while license suspended, suspended registration and speeding after being stopped by police in the 1900 block of Skokie Valley Road at 9:15 a.m. July 13. She was released on a personal recognizance bond with an Aug. 13 court date.

Burglary from a motor vehicle

Someone stole a black leather wallet from the passenger front seat of an unlocked silver Hyundai while it was parked in the Golf Learning Center parking lot in the 2200 block of Skokie Valley Road sometime between 8:50 and 9:50 a.m. July 8. The wallet contained cash, miscellaneous IDs, debit and credit cards.

Catalytic converters stolen

Someone stole the catalytic converter on a red 2004 Chevrolet Venture between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. while the vehicle was parked in a parking lot in the 1900 block of Skokie Valley Road July 11. 

Someone stole the catalytic converter on a gray Chevrolet Venture sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. while the vehicle was parked in a parking lot in the 700 block of Park Avenue West July 11.
