4 Rescued After Capsizing Near Ft. Sheridan

A Coast Guard boat crew saved three Highland Park residents and one Deerfield resident after their sailboat capsized Sunday.

A U.S. Coast Guard boat crew rescued three Highland Park residents and one Deerfield resident after the sailboat they were on capsized Sunday afternoon near Fort Sheridan, Pioneer Press reports.

According to both the Chicago Tribune and the Sun Times, the boaters called for help using a handheld marine radio at around 11:30 a.m. Sunday. When a boat crew from Station Wilmette Harbor arrived about forty minutes later, they found two men and two children in lifejackets, floating in 58 degree water. All four showed signs of hypothermia.

The identities of the four people -- a 43-year-old man from Deerfield, a 41-year-old man from Highland Park, a 13-year-old boy from Highland Park and an 11-year-old girl from Highland Park, will not be released, according to both the Tribune and the Sun-Times.
