Update: 6-Vehicle Crash Leaves 1 Dead

Wednesday night crash results in traffic backups Thursday morning.

Update 8/25/11 10:20 a.m.: The driver who was killed in a six-vehicle crash Wednesday night at Route 41 and Half Day Road has been identified as Richard E. Stolt of Cleveland, Minn.

According to a release sent Thursday morning from the Highland Park Police Department, Stolt was fatally injured and died at the scene. The other semi-truck driver and one driver of the passenger cars were transported to Highland Park Hospital for minor injuries and later released.

The remaining three drivers of the passenger vehicles signed medical releases at the scene, according to the police news release.

Highland Park Police Accident investigators and the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) of Lake County are investigating the incident, the release adds. The incident resulted in a traffic backup along the northbound lanes of Route 41 at Route 22. All lanes were opened as of 8:45 a.m. Thursday morning.

A six-vehicle crash in Highland Park Wednesday night left one person killed. 

The accident occurred at Route 41 and Half Day Road at around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Fox Chicago News reports.

The crash involved two semi-trucks and four cars. One semi-truck driver was killed at the scene. He was 51-years-old. The other semi-truck driver sustained injuries, but is expected to recover, according to Fox Chicago News.

Though it happened Wednesday night, the accident has resulted in traffic backups Thursday morning as police investigate what caused it to happen.
