Burglar Flees When Confronted by Homeowner

The following arrest information was supplied by the Highland Park police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Residential burglary

Police are investigating a report of a residential burglary. It was reported that an unknown male entered a second floor apartment through an unlocked back door on August 8 and was confronted by the owner. The owner yelled at the male who then fled down the back stairs and into a tan or silver Jeep. No items were reported taken. The incident occurred in the 1600 block of McGovern Avenue, Highland Park.

Police are investigating a delayed report of a residential burglary. It was reported that unknown person(s) entered a residence between 9:15 a.m. and 12 p.m. on August 7 through either the unsecured front or unsecured east door and took several pieces of jewelry from a jewelry box and dresser drawer located in the master bedroom. The incident occurred in the 200 block of Prospect Avenue, Highland Park.

Possession of cannabis

Kathleen Croke, 42, of the 700 block of Concorde Lane, Barrington and Kimberly Wood, 43, of the 6000 block of Brick Church, Walworth, Wisconsin were observed smoking cannabis by police in the West Parking Lot of on August 13. Croke and Wood were issued administrative citations for possession of cannabis and are expected in Administrative Court at City Hall, 1707 St. Johns Avenue, Highland Park on September 6, 2012.

Theft

Police are investigating a report of a theft. It was reported that an SE Racing "Ripper," a brown BMX bicycle with bright green handles and a multi-color chain, was stolen between 4:30 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. on August 6. The bicycle was left unsecured in a bike rack in the 400 block of Laurel Avenue, Highland Park.

Police are investigating a report of a theft. It was reported at approximately 8 p.m. a debit card which was in it’s owners possession was unlawfully swiped by an unknown person at a business located in the 100 block of Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park for a total purchase of four bottles of champagne.   

Police are investigating a report of a theft. It was reported an unknown subject pumped $33.05 in gasoline. After the individual finished pumping gas the credit card was denied. At that time the unknown subject took the card and drove off without paying. The incident occurred at a business located in the 1300 block of Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park.

Driving under the influence

Ryszard Binias, 64, of the 5300 block of W. Fletcher, Chicago, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and disobeying a traffic control device after being stopped by police near the intersection of Half Day Road and Highmoor Road Highland Park. Binias was released on a cash bond with a court date of August 31, 2012 at 18 North County Street, Waukegan, Illinois.

Casey Burke, 22, of the 2300 block of Gilboa Avenue, Zion, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and speeding after being stopped by police in the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park. Burke was released on a personal recognizance bond with a court date of September 14, 2012 at 18 North County Street, Waukegan, Illinois.

Jorge Nieves, 34, of the 26000 block of W. Lakeview Avenue, Ingleside, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of cannabis and driving under the influence while revoked for DUI after police responded to a complaint of an unknown subject parked in a driveway asleep at the wheel in the 800 block of Broadview Avenue, Highland Park. Nieves was transported to bond court at 18 North County Street, Waukegan, Illinois pending court date.

Battery

Gerald Watson, Jr., 21, of the 3800 block of West End Avenue, Chicago, was arrested and charged with battery after police investigated a complaint from an adult female of inappropriate touching by Watson that occurred August 5 at 5:30 a.m. Watson was released on a cash bond with a court date of September 12, 2012 at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan. 

Identity theft

Steven Brody, 52, of the 1400 block of Arbor Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested and charged with identity theft and unlawful use of a credit card after turning himself in on a warrant. Brody was released on a cash bond with a court date of August 28, 2012 at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan.

Criminal damage to property

Police are investigating a delayed report of a criminal damage to property. It was reported that sometime between 7:10 a.m. and 5:40 p.m. on August 6, an unknown subject keyed the driver's side doors of a vehicle. The vehicle was parked in the 0-100 block of St. Johns Avenue, Highland Park. 

Burglary from motor vehicle

Police are investigating a report of a burglary from motor vehicle. It was reported that unknown person(s) entered an unsecured convertible overnight and removed a wallet from the unlocked glove box. Taken was a brown leather bi-fold wallet which contained cash and credit cards. The vehicle was parked in the driveway of a residence in the 100 block of Maple Avenue, Highland Park.

Police are investigating a report of a burglary from motor vehicle. It was reported two vehicles were unlocked and entered between 1:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. on August 11.  Nothing was taken, however vehicles were rummaged through. The vehicles were parked in the driveway of a residence in the 1100 block of Taylor Avenue, Highland Park.

Unlawful acquisition of controlled substance

Neiman Riley, 21, of the 2000 block of Honore Avenue, North Chicago, was arrested and charged with unlawful acquisition of a controlled substance after it was alleged Riley had taken approximately 10 bottles of Hydrocodone while employed, between April 2012 and August 2012 in the 600 block of Roger Williams Avenue, Highland Park. Riley was transported to bond court at 18 North County Street, Waukegan, Illinois.
