Cops: Convicted Killer Returned to Prison

Steven L. Robbins was taken back to an Indiana prison after being mistakenly released last week.

Steven L. Robbins has returned to the custody of the Indiana Department of Corrections, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said.

Robbins, 44, made a brief court appearance Friday at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse, located at 26th and California Ave., where a judge quashed the warrant for Robbins’ arrest that was issued after he was mistakenly released from Cook County Jail on Wednesday.

Members of the Sheriff’s Police Central Warrants Unit returned Robbins early this afternoon to the Indiana Department of Corrections, where he is serving a 60-year sentence for murder and having a gun without a license.
