Highland Park Man Gets 25 Years for Trying To Aid Taliban

Oded Orbach was arrested for trying to sell weapons to Taliban to be used against U.S. troops.

A Highland Park man arrested in May, 2011, for trying to obtain weapons to sell to the Taliban for use against American troops was sentenced to 25 years in prison today in federal court in New York, according to a report on Politico.

Oded Orbach, 55, was sentenced after being convicted earlier this year, according to a report in the Highland Park News.

Orbach and another United States citizen were arrested in Romania after a two-year investigation by the Drug Enforcement Agency revealed they were trying to arrange the sale of heat seeking surface to air missiles worth $25 million through a confidential source, according to Politico.

The Highland Park homeowner who is originally from Israel was charged with conspiracy to provide material support and resources to terrorists, and conspiracy to acquire and transfer anti-aircraft missiles, according to an earlier Patch report.
