Man Arrested for Attempted Break-In with a Knife

Aggravated assault and burglary to motor vehicle

Benjamin Schenk, 19, of the 0-100 block of Wainwright Street, Highland Park, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and burglary to motor vehicle after police responded to a complaint of subject attempting to break into a vehicle parked in the 300 block of Walker Avenue, Highland Park. It was alleged that Schenk threatened the witness with a knife. Schenk was transported to bond court at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan pending court date.

Theft under $500

Police are investigating a report of theft. A male subject pumped approximately $79 worth of gasoline from a business located in the 1400 block of Park Avenue West, Highland Park and drove off without paying.

Police are investigating a delayed report of theft. Two packages delivered by UPS on Nov. 20 and Nov. 28 were stolen from a residential front porch in the 2000 block of Malory Lane, Highland Park.

Police are investigating a delayed report of theft of medication and a woman's "Omega" gold watch/leather band which was taken during an open house on Dec. 3 in the 600 block of Kincaid Street, Highland Park.

Retail theft

Mikol Mendes, 49, of the 2300 block of Duffy Lane, Riverwoods, was arrested and charged with retail theft after police responded to a report of a shoplifter at a business in the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park. Mendes was transported to bond court at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, Illinois pending court date.

Driving under the influence

Ann Singer, 76, of the 300 block of Green Bay Road, Highland Park was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.  Police responded to a report of a vehicle that had struck a parked vehicle and left the scene in the 600 block of Elm Place, Highland Park. Singer was released on a personal recognizance bond with a court date of December 28, 2012 at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, Illinois.

Emanuel Fitzpatrick, Jr., 41, of the 5700 block of Columbus Avenue, Hammond, Indiana was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, improper lane usage and driving while license suspended after police responded to a driving complaint in the 3300 block of Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park. Fitzpatrick, Jr. was released on a personal recognizance bond with a court date of January 13, 2013 at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, Illinois.

James Hamilton, 67, of the 1200 block of Darrow Avenue, Evanston was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, improper lane usage and open transportation of alcohol after police responded to a driving complaint in the 3300 block of Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park. Hamilton was released on a personal recognizance bond with a court date of December 28, 2012 at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, Illinois.

Norma Cardenas-Casarrubias, 25, of the 2500 block of 24th Place, North Chicago, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, open transportation of alcohol, no valid driver’s license and speeding after police responded to a report of a vehicle that had struck a garage in the 600 block of Glenview Avenue and left the scene.  Cardenas-Casarrubias was released on a cash bond with a court date of December 28, 2012 at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, Illinois.

Activity constituting a public nuisance

Paulina Korczykowska, 23, of the 4000 block of Scott Street, Schiller Park was cited administratively for activity constituting a public nuisance after police responded to a report of an underage drinking party in the 1000 block of Saxony Drive, Highland Park. Korczykowska was cited and released with an administrative court date of Jan. 17, 2013 at City Hall, 1707 St. Johns Avenue, Highland Park. 

Criminal damage to property

Police are investigating a report of a pumpkin thrown at the rear of a vehicle, parked on the 100 block of Indian Tree Drive, Highland Park.  Damage was reported to the rear hatch of the vehicle.
