Man Drives 11 Miles into Oncoming Traffic on Edens

Glenview resident arrested after driving on the wrong side of expressway.

A 24-year-old Glenview resident drove 11 miles in the wrong direction on the Edens Expressway early Thursday morning until he was pulled over by Illinois State Police, Pioneer Press reports.

Sergio Galvez-Delira was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, having open alcohol, no insurance and improper lane usage after he drove 11 miles into oncoming traffic at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Pioneer Press.

Though no one was injured, Master Sgt. Joseph Stangl told the Chicago Tribune that this "could have turned into a horrific tragedy."

Trooper Ivan Bukaczyk expressed a similar sentiment to Pioneer Press.

"We’re lucky that no one got injured,” he said.
