Man Hoping to Meet 14-Year-Old for Sex Arrested in Highland Park: Police

The 24-year-old Skokie man was arrested at a park after the person he was communicating with online turned out to be a police investigator and not a teenage girl, police said.

A 24-year-old Skokie man was arrested in Highland Park after police say he made plans online to meet a 14-year-old girl for a sexual encounter.

Instead, it turned out the man had been communicating online with a Highland Park investigator, according to a police press release.

Awais Javaid, of the 9400 block of Crawford Avenue, was arrested for indecent solicitation of a child May 7 at Fink Park while sitting in a car, police said. Javaid had driven there from his Skokie home because he thought he was meeting a girl for a sexual encounter, police said. A search of his vehicle as well as statements he made at the time of his arrest linked him to the inappropriate online communications, police said.
