There are no conclusive studies but the general tenor is if you own a gun you are 5 times more likely to be shot or killed than if you are unarmed. If you are a woman you cannot train for the stress that is involved if you reach for a weapon in a threatening situation. Dan, the best defense is to not own a gun. I am certainly not suggesting that a person does not defend against a threat or is "too weak." Those are your inflammatory words Dan, not mine.

Benny G. You are the one saying what women can not do... I say, let the women be empowered to do the task if they so wish. Liberty is the freedom to choose, something that people from your part of the state were not taught in school. Your idea of the best defense is to not own a gun, has not worked out well for all of the victims. The Harvard Crime Study does not agree with your non-sense. The CDC report does not agree with your non-sense and the fact is that gun ownership is up nationally and statewide, yet crime and murder are down! Again, your statements do not hold up against the facts.

Dan, "your "facts" are not "fact" by any stretch. You take the "facts" which support your non-sense...Spare me the lesson in "facts." The FACT that you are more likely to be killed by a gun if you own a gun is substantial enough for most.

Well I own and legally carry a firearm...and will continue to do so. Feel free to use whatever you wish to I will choose the firearm every time and you won't impose on my right to do so.

Well the CCL's are out and now lot's of the blog commentators have the peace of mind of "carrying or packing". Hopefully the novelty will wear off as well as the hassle of having it on one's person. Not comfortable, not allowed in many places, have not needed it up to now and likely will never need it......people will move on to other important items. In the end we likely will have a number of cars with weapons in the glove box....please remember to lock your car and hopefully not too many road rage fueled macho gun displays or children accidentally coming into contact with same. Perhaps having a CCL off in a neutral location like Deerfield Bakery where all can meet and display their wares for all to see what each other is packing will take some of the mystery and allure away. Safe Carry guys and gals!
