Police Apprehend Suspected Burglar, Find Gun

Hours after an early morning break-in, police have found a person who fits the description of the offender, and a long gun nearby.

Police have apprehended a suspect in Thursday morning's armed burglary in the 3000 block of Parkside.

The offender, who was described as a male wearing a dark hoodie and dark pants (possibly jeans), was spotted in a Highland Park home at 7:22 a.m. by the homeowners, with what appeared to be a rifle. He fled on foot, and was last seen heading north towards the park area. No one was injured.

At 9:19 a.m., a Lake Forest officer assisting the Highland Park police located a person fitting the description of the offender in the area of Half-Day Road and Ridge Road, according to Highland Park Deputy Police Chief Dave Schwarz. Officers found a long gun lying along the roadway a short distance away in the 1500 block of Half-Day Road.

Before the suspect was apprehended, two residents called the police to report sightings of someone who may have been the offender. One said he was near , another reported seeing him in the backyard of a home, according to Schwarz.

The suspect was taken into custody and is being held pending authorization of charges.
