Police Blotter: 2 Held After Alleged Knife Attack

A case of identity theft was also among the report this week.

The following items were provided by the Highland Park Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Criminal damage to property

On Sept. 9 at 3:36 p.m., Joan Schrimpf, 68, of the 900 block of Valley Road in Lake Forest, was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property. Schrimpf was released on bond, and has a court date of Sept. 28.

Identity theft

Richard Bevacqua, 29, of the 500 block of West Madison Street in Waukegan, was arrested and charged with identity theft after police were called to the report of a suspicious male attempting entry into multiple vehicles in the 1200 block of Taylor Avenue in Highland Park.  Bevacqua was released on bond and has a court date of Oct. 12.

Burglary to motor vehicle

Police are investigating two burglary reports of unlocked vehicles in which an iPod Nano and keys were taken in the 1000 block of Sandwick Court. 

Theft

Police are investigating the report of several pieces of jewelry, hand bag and clothing stolen being stolen Aug. 30-31 in the 1800 block of Eastwood Avenue, Highland Park.

Police are investigating the report of an attempted theft in the 1600 block of Deerfield Road, Highland Park, where two male suspects attempted to steal five 1.75-liter bottles of Grey Goose vodka, valued at a total of $358.56. The suspects walked out the door with the liquor. But when confronted by employees, they pushed the cart back into the store and left in a vehicle.

Police are investigating the report of a theft of a black quilted Burberry hooded waist length coat, valued at $700, between Sept. 7-8 in the 500 block of Elm Place, Highland Park.

Police are investigating the report of a theft of about $75.70 in gasoline in the 0-10 block of Lake Cook Road, Highland Park.

Aggravated battery

Juan Carlos Cabrera, 26, of the 900 block of Deerfield Road in Highland Park, and Alberto Casarubias-Chavelos, 26, of the 300 block of Ashland Avenue in Highwood, were arrested and charged with aggravated battery after police were summoned to a dispute that supposedly involved a knife attack in the 900 block of Deerfield Road in Highland Park. Both Cabrera and Casarubias-Chavelos were transported to bond court at 18 N. County St., Waukegan, pending court dates. 

Driving while license suspended

Leah Jaggers, 24, of the 300 block of South Orchard, Highwood, was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license after being stopped by police in the 2600 block of the Skokie Valley Road in Highland Park. Jaggers was released on bond. and has a court date of Sept. 28.

Florentino Cruz-Jimenez, 42, of the 1700 block of First Street in Highland Park, was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license, having a headlight out and operating an uninsured motor vehicle after he was stopped by police in the 800 block of the Laurel Avenue in Highland Park. Cruz-Jimenez was released on bond with a court date of Oct. 12.

Driving under the influence

Elisa Todd, 45, of the 1000 block of Sheridan Avenue in Deerfield, was arrested for driving under the influence, and speeding after police stopped her vehicle near the intersection of Central Avenue and Deerfield Road, Highland Park. Todd was released on bond, and has a court date of Oct. 14.

Oscar Barraza-Ortega, 38, of the 4700 block of South Rockwell in Chicago, was arrested for driving under the influence, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane usage and operating with suspended driver’s license after police responded to a driving complaint in the 1400 block of Park Avenue West, Highland Park. Barraza-Ortega was released on bond, and has a court date of Oct. 14.
