Police Blotter: Home, Car Burglaries

The following arrest information was supplied by the Highland Park police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Reckless driving

Patrick Castellanos, 18, of the 2100 block of St. Johns Avenue, Highland Park, and Alan Rodriguez, 18, of the 2700 block of Lauretta Place, Highland Park, were arrested on Feb. 2, stemming from an investigation of several reported auto burglaries occurring between Jan. 27 and Jan. 29. Rodriguez was charged with financial identity theft, two counts of burglary and unlawful use of credit card. Castellanos was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, financial identity theft, two counts of burglary and unlawful use of credit card.  Both Castellanos and Rodriguez were transported to Bond Court at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan pending a court date. 

Criminal damage to property

Police are investigating a report of a criminal damage to property (graffiti). The incident occurred in the 2000 block of Sheridan Road, Highland Park. 

Daniel Struck, 46, of the 1700 block of Cavell Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property after police responded to a traffic altercation near the intersection of Cavell Avenue and Park Avenue West, Highland Park. Struck was released on bond with a court date of March 14 at 301 Greenleaf Street, Park City, IL.

Theft

Police are investigating the report of a theft (Black 8GB iPhone 3GS) sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 30. The incident occurred in the 400 block of Vine Avenue, Highland Park. 

Police are investigating the delayed report of a theft (Northface jacket and cash taken) sometime between 9:45 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. on Feb. 1. The incident occurred in the 100 block of Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park. 

Police are investigating the delayed report of a theft. An unknown subject entered the storage shed by prying a pad lock off (Trek bicycle taken).The theft occurred sometime between Dec. 15, 2011 and Feb. 2, 2012 at 4:15 p.m. in the 1000 block of Marion Avenue, Highland Park. 

Police are investigating the delayed report of a theft (jewelry).The theft occurred sometime on Feb. 1 and was discovered upon packing up belongings in the 300 block of Walker Avenue, Highland Park. 

Burglary to motor vehicle

Police are investigating a delayed report of a (Verizon cell phone, Apple iPad, cigarettes, Fendi woman's sunglasses and Oakley sunglasses taken) sometime in the evening of Jan. 29. The incident occurred in the 1000 block of Lincoln Avenue South, Highland Park.  The vehicle was left unlocked and no forced entry was made. 

Police are investigating a delayed report of a burglary to motor vehicle (Blue Ant Bluetooth device taken) sometime between 4 p.m. on Jan. 27 and 7 a.m. on Jan. 30. The incident occurred in the 1300 block of Ridge Road, Highland Park.  The vehicle was left unlocked and no forced entry was made. 

Police are investigating a delayed report of a burglary to motor vehicle (Garmin GPS taken) sometime between 9 p.m. on Jan. 28 and 11 a.m. on Jan. 29. The incident occurred in the 300 block of Barberry Road, Highland Park.  The vehicle was left unlocked and no forced entry was made.

Police are investigating an additional report of a burglary to motor vehicle found while officers were conducting a neighborhood canvas (Garmin GPS taken). The incident occurred in the 300 block of Barberry Road, Highland Park.  The vehicle was left unlocked and no forced entry was made. 

Police are investigating a delayed report of a burglary to motor vehicle (sunglasses and garage door opener taken) between 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 28 and. 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 30. The incident occurred in the 900 block of Bob-O-Link Road, Highland Park.  The vehicle was left unlocked and no forced entry was made.

Police are investigating a delayed report of a burglary to motor vehicle (Apple iPhone 4S taken) sometime on Jan. 25. The incident occurred in the 1800 block of Second Street, Highland Park. The vehicle was left unlocked and no forced entry was made. 

Residential burglary

Police are investigating a report of a residential burglary. Forced entry to a locked rear basement door was found. The incident occurred between 8 a.m. and 9:25 p.m. on Jan. 31. Taken were electronics, two laptops, one Kindle, two iPods and cords.  The incident occurred in the 500 block of Burton Avenue, Highland Park.  

Driving while license suspended

Grant Schlidy-Meyer, 44, of the 1900 block of N. Brookfield, Brookfield, WI, was arrested and charged with driving while license suspended and speeding after being stopped by police in the 2100 block of Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park. Schlidy-Meyer was released on a bond with a court date of Feb. 22.

Shaquita Lacy, 26, of the 3600 block of North 41st Street, Milwaukee, WI, was arrested and charged with driving while license suspended and improper lane usage after being stopped by police in the 600 block of Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park. Lacy was released on bond with a court date of March 28.

Edith Martinez, 36, of the 500 block of Michigan Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested and charged with driving while license suspended, uninsured motor vehicle and disobeying a traffic control device after being stopped by police in the 1800 block of Green Bay Road, Highland Park. Martinez was released on bond with a court date of Feb. 20 at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, IL.

Possession of cannabis

Matthew Maka, 18, of the 700 block of Ringland Road, Riverwoods, was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia after an officer located a suspicious occupied car in the 2600 block of Logan Street, Highland Park. Maka was released on a bond with a court date of March 3.

Driving under the influence

Maurizio Perrelli, 30, of the 1000 block of Half Day Road, Highland Park, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, speeding and failure to wear a seat belt after being stopped by police in the 1200 block of Park Avenue West, Highland Park. Perrelli was released on bond with a court date of March 2, 2012 at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, Illinois.

Piotr Filipek, 42, of the 0-10 block of Broadleys Court, Bannockburn, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, speeding, uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage after being stopped by police in the 1400 block of Half Day Road, Highland Park. Filipek was released on bond with a court date of March 16 at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, Illinois.

Leonard Smith, 65, of the 9700 block of Woods Drive, Skokie, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of cannabis and improper lane usage after being stopped by police in the 300 block of the Edens Expressway, Highland Park. Smith was released on bond with a court date of March 16 at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, Illinois.

Felix Martinez-Zeferino, 21, of the 1600 block of Hickory Street, Highland Park, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, no valid drivers license and disobeyed posted stop sign after being stopped by police in the 1200 block of Park Avenue West, Highland Park. Martinez-Zeferino was released on bond with a court date of March 9 at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, Illinois.

Criminal trespass to residence

Alfredo Ollua-Mendez, 33, of the 200 block of East Seegers, Arlington Heights, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass to residence and violation of order of protection after police responded to a report of suspicious activity in the 2700 block of St. Johns Avenue, Highland Park. Ollua-Mendez was transported to bond court at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, Illinois pending court date.
