Police Blotter: Home Invasion

The following arrest information was supplied by the Highland Park police department. It does not indicate a conviction

Home invasion

On Friday, Dec. 30, 2011 at approx. 9:55 p.m., Highland Park Police were called to a residence on Winona Road regarding a report of . Residents advised police that two male black offenders forcibly entered their home. The offenders discharged a firearm during the entry without injury to the victims and then forcibly restrained them. The victims suffered minor injuries during the course of the incident. The offenders took jewelry and other valuables before fleeing the scene. The victim’s son was able to loosen his restraints to summon police. A search of the area was conducted utilizing a K-9 Unit and other homes in the vicinity were checked by officers on foot. Police are continuing their investigation and are asking the public to contact 847-432-7730 to report any suspicious persons or vehicles that may have been observed in the area during this time period.

Police are investigating the report of a theft. It was reported that 27 golden American eagles coins were stolen from a residence. No forced entry noticed. The incident occurred in the 1200 block of Sherwood Road, Highland Park. 

Police are investigating the report of a theft. It was reported a purse containing an iPod, Nintendo DS with approximately four or five games and a Samsung cell phone were taken from a parked vehicle in for service.  The incident occurred in the 2800 block of Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park.

Police are investigating the delayed report of a theft where two furs and jewelry were removed from a residence sometime within the last 3 weeks. The incident occurred in the 1800 block of Garland Avenue, Highland Park. 

Police are investigating the delayed report of a theft where a green leather zip up wallet containing an Illinous driver's license, a Visa credit card, Mastercard debit card, currency and miscellaneous cards was taken. It was later found there was activity on the accounts. The incident occurred in the 1700 block of Green Bay Road, Highland Park. 

Police are investigating the delayed report of a theft in the 1000 block of Centerfield Court, Highland Park, where a light-up angel holiday decoration was taken from porch at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 30. The angel was later located in the 3300 block of University in Highland Park after a resident contacted HPPD upon finding the angel on the porch. Investigation continues.

Police are investigating the delayed report of a theft in the 1100 block of Lake Cook Road, Highland Park, where sometime overnight, one of six hydrangea plants planted earlier in the fall had been dug up and was missing.  

Police are investigating the delayed report of a theft in the 700 block of Judson Avenue, Highland Park, where some belongings were placed in a hallway for retrieval by the owner and upon retrieving the belongings a black Dell laptop, backpack, Nike GPS watch, a gray iPod Nano and an LED flashlight were found to be missing. 

Criminal damage to property

Police are investigating a report of criminal damage to property. It was reported that a vehicle had been keyed on the hood and all sides of the vehicle by an unknown subject sometime between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Dec. 27. The damage occurred in the 1800 block of Sheridan Road.

Police are investigating a delayed report of criminal damage to property. It was reported that an unknown subject entered a work truck and drove it into weeds (no damage to vehicle reported), lit cut wild grass clippings on fire and started a fire in a campfire pit between Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 at 4 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011 at 4 p.m. The damage occurred in the 2800 block of Ridge Road, Highland Park.

Police are investigating a report of criminal damage to property. It was reported that two vending machines had been compromised. A pry tool was used on the bill acceptor on both machines. It is unknown how much if any currency was taken. The damage occurred in the 300 block of Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park.

Police are investigating a report of criminal damage to property. It was reported that sometime between 10 p.m. on Dec. 13, 2011 and Jan. 1, 2012, a large landscape rock was thrown through the rear window of a vehicle parked on a driveway. The damage occurred in the 600 block of Glenview Avenue, Highland Park.

Criminal trespass to property

Police are investigating a criminal trespass to property after being called to the 1000 block of Half Day Road for a report of an unwanted subject at a residence where a previous No Trespass notice had been issued.  Martha Schatz, 49, of the 1000 block of Half Day Road was arrested on Dec 29, 2011 at 8:34 a.m. and charged with criminal trespass to land. Schatz was released on a personal recognizance bond with a court date of Jan. 25 at 301 Greenleaf Street, Park City.

Suspicious activity

Police are investigating a report of suspicious activity where an unknown subject removed a window well cover from a home sometime in the past week. The cover weighs an estimated 40 to 70 pounds and was left on the ground about five feet from the window well. It is unlikely that the window well was blown off by wind due to the weight and the clamps that secure it. The incident occurred in the 1200 block of Lynn Terrace, Highland Park.

Driving under the influence

Sargon Oraham, 30, of the 2300 block of John Smith Drive, Schaumburg, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of cannabis, uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage after police responded to a report of a driving complaint in the 2500 block of Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park.  Oraham was transported to bond court at 18 North County Street, Waukegan pending court date. 

Consumption of alcohol by minors

Police were summoned to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in a driveway in the 0-100 block of Roger Williams Avenue, Highland Park. Upon investigation, several juvenile subjects were located in a nearby residence and were detained for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor.
