Three Cars Broken into in Highland Park

Theft under $300

March 11: Police are investigating a delayed report of a theft. It was reported that an iPod touch was stolen from a gym area approximately 1 month ago. The incident occurred in the 100 block of Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park.

March 12: Police are investigating a report of an attempt theft. It was reported that a male subject in his 20's was observed with a bottle of vodka in his hand and the subject left a store without paying for the item.  An employee followed the subject outside and told him to give back the alcohol at which time the male handed over the bottle of vodka and a small bottle of wine then left westbound from the store. The incident occurred in the 1800 block of Green Bay Road, Highland Park.

March 15: Police are investigating a delayed report of a theft. It was reported that an iPad was stolen from a school office on March 14, 2013 between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. while it was plugged in on a desk. The incident occurred in the 400 block of Vine Avenue, Highland Park. 

Criminal damage to property

March 11: Police are investigating a delayed report of a theft. It was reported that on March 8, 2013 between the hours of 7:15 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. the driver side mirror of a gray Mercedes-Benz SUV was damaged. The damage occurred in the 3100 block of Summit Avenue, Highland Park while the vehicle was parked on the street.  

Driving under the influence

March 15: Guy Mandler, 61, of the 800 block of Davis Street, Evanston, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, failure to dim headlights and no valid registration after being stopped by police near Green Bay Road and Roger Williams Avenue, Highland Park.  Mandler was released on a personal recognizance bond with a court date of April 19, 2013 at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, Illinois. 

March 16: Jesus Machado-Contreras, 21, of the 500 block of George Avenue, Waukegan was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, open transportation of alcohol, uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane usage and no valid drivers license after being stopped by police near Parkside Drive and Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park.  Machado-Contreras was released on a personal recognizance bond with a court date of April 19, 2013 at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, Illinois. 

March 17: Erika Ortiz, 25, of the 3300 block of Valley View Drive, Wildwood was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, speeding and improper lane usage after being stopped by police near Parkside Drive and Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park.  Ortiz was released on a personal recognizance bond with a court date of April 19, 2013 at 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, Illinois. 

Burglary from motor vehicle

March 16: Police are investigating a report of a burglary from motor vehicle. It was reported that several items including a wallet, checkbook, iPhone, sunglasses and credit cards were taken from a vehicle between 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.  The vehicle was reportedly locked, however, no forced entry was observed. The incident occurred in the 100 block of Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park. 

March 17: Police are investigating a report of a burglary from motor vehicle. It was reported that a silver GMC SUV had a window broken and a purse was stolen while the vehicle was parked in a lot.  The incident occurred in the 1200 block of Park Avenue, Highland Park.

Criminal damage to motor vehicle

March 17: Police are investigating a report of a criminal damage to motor vehicle. It was reported that a unknown person(s) broke out the drivers side front window of a red Chevrolet Blazer between 12 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.  No items were disturbed or removed from the vehicle.  The incident occurred in the 1200 block of Park Avenue, Highland Park.
