Wincanton House Fire Causes Heavy Smoke Damage

No one was home during the Tuesday afternoon fire.

A home in the 1600 block of Wincanton Lane sustained considerable smoke damage after a fire broke out in a back room Tuesday afternoon.

The smoke detector activation brought in the Highland Park Fire Department around 3:40 p.m., Deputy Fire Chief Dan Pease said. Once there, they could see that the windows were filled with smoke and the call was upgraded to a structure fire.

No one was in the home at the time.

Firefighters ventilated the home by breaking skylights and a couple windows and the smoke cleared, allowing the firefighters to extinguish the fire in a back room, Pease said. It took about 20-25 minutes to put out the flames.

Investigators were still on the scene Tuesday evening and the cause had not yet been determined, Pease said. The smoke damage to the home was considerable.
