Highland Park to Fund Pension Increases

The City of Highland Park is facing increases in required payments to police and fire pensions.

New calculations using more conservative assumptions means the City of Highland Park will need to allocate another $800,000 in the 2014 budget to pay $4.4 million in required contributions to police and fire pensions, reported the Highland Park News.

Though the required contributions are increasing about $1.1 million from the 2012 levy, the city council already decided last December to contribute $220,000 more to this year to lessen the impact of future increases, according to the story.
