Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park) is recovering at Lake Forest Hospital after surgeons removed his gall bladder today and is expected to be released Tuesday, according to hospital spokesperson Jane Griffin.

Kirk, who checked into the hospital after suffering a stroke nearly two years ago, went there Saturday complaining of stomach pain. Gall stones were detected and the surgery scheduled, according to a news release from the hospital.

A quick recovery is expected, according to a statement from Kirk’s office. Griffin believes he should be back to work within one to two weeks. “Most people who have this surgery return to normal activities in a week or two,” Griffin said. “It could be sooner.”
