Lake Forest Resident Seeks Lake County Board Slot In District 12

Helton will run in Republican primary, receives Gravenhorst's endorsement.

Lake Forest resident Scott Helton recently announced his candidacy to run in the Republican primary for the Lake County Board District 12 seat.

District 12 comprises Lake Forest with portions of Deerfield and Highland Park.

Helton is the third local candidate to seek a spot on the Lake County Board. Lake Bluff residents  and  are running in the Republican primary in District 13.

Lake Forest has been represented the past decade by Susan Gravenhorst, who recently announced she will not seek re-election in 2012. She has endorsed Helton as her replacement.

“I am confident that Scott will provide the strong leadership that he has shown throughout his career," Gravenhorst said. "He is hardworking and keeps his promises. Scotty will work hard to protect Lake County’s AAA Bond Rating, and help small businesses create jobs for our area.”

Helton said he received encouragement from local leaders and residents to seek the Lake County board position.

"I pledge to continue the policies of fiscal responsibility and high quality service that Susan championed over the past 10 years. I am proud to have earned her confidence and support," Helton said.

Helton has been associated with the law firm Finkel, Martwick & Colson since 1984, and serves as the firm’s resident property tax and valuation expert.

At the age of 26, Helton was elected to the Village Board in Glenview.  He has also served as president of the , as a member on the Barat Campus Advisory Committee and was appointed by the Lake County Board as a member of the Board of Review Advisory Committee.

He is also a Republican precinct committeeman in Moraine Township. As a member of Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, Helton is chairman of the Spiritual Gifts Committee.
