Naftzger Resigns From Highland Park City Council

The councilman announced he was stepping down Monday, citing too many other demands on his time.

Councilman David Naftzger resigned Monday from the Highland Park City Council on Monday, citing too many demands on his time.

Naftzger still has a year left in his four-year term, and with the council's approval, Mayor Nancy Rotering will appoint someone to finish it later this summer.

"I am honored to have served the City and grateful for the opportunity to have worked with City staff and the Council," Naftzger stated in a press release. "Unfortunately, it has been increasingly challenging to manage the many demands on my time. Therefore, I know that this is the right decision in order to focus fully on my family, professional and other responsibilities."

Naftzger, who was elected in May 2011, works full time as the executive director of the Council of Great Lakes Governors.
