Revenge Porn Bill Moves on to Illinois Senate

If passed, House Bill 4320 would make revenge porn a Class 3 felony. The bill is sponsored by 58th District Representative Scott Drury (D-Highwood)..

State Representative for the 58th district, Scott Drury (D-Highwood) is the chief sponsor of HB4320, also known as the Revenge Porn Bill, which was passed by the Illinois House last week (110-2) and now moves on to the Illinois Senate.

Revenge porn is described as, "the distribution of sexually explicit videos or photos without a person's consent and has become a topic of nationwide interest as more and more people (mostly women) are victimized by it," according to a press release from Drury's office.

If the bill is passed by the Illinois Senate, it would make revenge porn a Class 3 felony.

"This law protects potential victims and allows law enforcement to punish those who engage in this hateful conduct," Drury stated in the release.

The Illinois Senate previously passed a bill addressing revenge porn, but Drury's office says it was not as comprehensive as his bill, which bans all methods of distribution, and not only those on the internet.

The 58th district includes portions of Bannockburn, Deerfield, Glencoe, Highland Park, Highwood, Knollwood, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, Northbrook North Chicago and Riverwoods.
