Want to Run for Park District Board?

Two seats on the Park District of Highland Park Board of Commissioners will be filled in the 2013 election. Here's how you can run.

The information below comes from the Park District of Highland Park.

Update Dec. 4: The deadline for filing 2013 consolidated election nominating petitions for the two open seats on the Park Board of Commissioners for the Park District of Highland Park has been extended.

Senate Bill 3338, signed by Governor Quinn, amended the Election Code moving the filing deadline to December 26 at 5 p.m. Read below for directions and qualifications to run.

Earlier: Commissioners for the Park District of Highland Park will be filled at the April 9, 2013 consolidated election. These seats are currently held by Elaine Waxman and Cal Bernstein. Nominating petitions and other filing materials are available at West Ridge Center, 636 Ridge Road, Highland Park.

Candidates for the office of Park Commissioner must be a resident of the Park District for at least one (1) year prior to the election and must file a statement of economic interest with the Lake County Clerk. Commissioners serve without compensation.

Interested candidates must file nominating petitions signed by 198 registered voters who are residents of the Park District of Highland Park. Nominating petitions may be circulated beginning Tuesday, September 25, 2012.

The petition filing period for the April election is Monday, December 17, 2012 beginning at 8:30 am through Monday, December 24, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. at West Ridge Center, 636 Ridge Road, Highland Park.
