Social Media and Your College Application

College application season is just around the corner.  Most applications, as well as the newly designed Common Application will be available on-line on August 1st.

It’s a good idea to set up a separate email for your correspondence with colleges, to make sure you don’t miss any important information.  Colleges will still use email, so it’s important to check it often.  Also, be sure to set up an appropriate name for your email (one you would be proud to share with your parents, grandparents, and/or future employer).

Now is also the time to check your social media sites for appropriate content.  Colleges and universities do check out sites from time to time, and especially if they have any questions or concerns about a candidate.  Again, use the parent/grandparent/employer rule in making sure all pictures and text on Facebook, twitter, etc. are what you want people you are trying to impress to see.
