Berry Brain Food!

Berry Brain Food!

Did you know berries can help you stay mentally sharp? This superfood contains phytochemicals which help prevent cell damage. More importantly they contain a type of flavanoid (antioxidant) called anthocyanidins, which can transfer from the blood stream to the brain. Anthocyanidins transfer more greatly in the hippocampus, which is the learning and memory center of the brian. These flavanoids help prevent aging of the brian cells by fighting inflammation and oxidation. In a recent study, 16,000 women over the age of 70 that had eaten 1-2 cups of berries a week showed a slower decline in brain function than those who had eaten this superfood less often. Those that had taken in higher amounts of berries delayed cognitive decline by two and a half years! This study was published in Annals of Neurology.
