Seven Highland Park High School students are among the nation’s National Merit semifinalists putting them among the country’s academic elite, according to a news release today from Township High School 113.
The semifinalists are Ari Bell, Jacob Burroughs, Samuel Davidson, David Gordon, Taylor Sheneman, Spencer Simon and Suzanne Warshell.
This group is part of 16,000 students nationwide who scored highest on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test out of approximately 1.5 million people who took the exam. Their scores put them in better than the top one percent of all test takers.
Finalists will be announced in the spring and most semifinalists are expected to make the cut, according to the release. Approximately 8,000 of the finalists will receive scholarships worth more than $35 million. Nine Highland Park students were semifinalists last year and all became finalists.
