CJHS Celebrates 10th Anniversary Tonight

Long time staff, donors to be honored at celebration fundraiser.

will celebrate its 10th anniversary at 7 p.m. today at its Deerfield campus with a gala event honoring those who have helped build the school and to raise funds to bolster its scholarship fund.

More than 750 people are expected to attend the occasion in a tent on the school’s grounds. The gala was originally planned for the school’s gym but was moved to a tent because of the overwhelming response according to Marketing and Communications Manager Tara Seymour.

According to Seymour the scholarship fund is there to help any child wishing a combined Jewish and general studies education to be able to have one.

Jennifer Flink of Deerfield, one of the persons who organized the evening has seen the school grow from 25 students to its present enrollment of 168. One of her children was in the first graduating class, another has graduated and a third is currently enrolled.

“This important milestone celebrates our school’s history – from its past, present and future,” Flink said in a news release.  “It is my hope that this event will insure that CJHS is here for all future generations of Jewish high school students.”

Among those being honored are of Highland Park for their generosity over the years and seven members of the faculty and staff who have been with the school since it opened.

The seven are social worker Dr. Gary Auslander, Rabbi Ruven Barkan, Director of Building and Administrative Services Inez Drazin, Maintenance Engineer Alex Kosarev, Science Department Chair Ann Levinson, Modern Language Department Chair Claudia Linda, and Marla Snyder, a teacher.
